Proposal for a Memorial to the Victims of October 7, Tel Aviv University

On the morning of October 7, 2023, the idea of home as a place of safety and protection was profoundly fractured. The intimate domestic space, our “third skin,” sheltering body and mind, was suddenly revealed as fragile and permeable.

The memorial emerges from this rupture, translating the loss of security into concrete, steel, glass, and light. Displaced walls, fissures, and tilted planes destabilize the familiar architectural order, drawing the visitor into a narrow passage between black concrete and weathered Corten steel. Above, the fragile outline of a house appears suspended on the verge of collapse.

From this point of compression, the space gradually opens toward light and toward two existing trees. The gradual opening from the constricted space between the walls suggests the possibility of a fragile hope: not the erasure of rupture, but the emergence of growth and continuity from within it.
